Generally in life, options are a good thing. For example, having the option to sit in the aisle on an airplane or being able to choose what toppings you want on your pizza. Options are good. When it comes to industrial equipment, options are still a good thing.
Purchasing industrial equipment is a huge financial decision for your business. It impacts not only your business’s immediate expenses but it can also impact future spending. If you purchase an inexpensive, low-quality piece of equipment, chances are you’ll be replacing it in the not-too-distant-future.
It can also affect your business’s productivity. For example, purchasing a yard ramp that is too small for your operations could slow down business. Having options when purchasing your yard ramps matters for three reasons: the right job, the right size, and the right price.
The Right Job
When purchasing a yard ramp, your first instinct may be to look at the price. However, you need to consider the job you are using it for. Different yard ramps can handle different loads. You need to make sure that the job and any potential future jobs can be handled by the yard ramp you choose.
You also have the option to choose a stationary yard ramp or a mobile yard ramp. While both offer non-permanent solutions to traditional docking bays, they each have their own benefits. Stationary yard ramps are typically used in situations where it will get daily use.
Mobile yard ramps are great for infrequent use or as backups to a stationary yard ramp or permanent docking bay. You can also move your mobile yard ramp around to different areas much easier, creating loading and unloading zones almost anywhere it will fit.
Our ramps also come with the option for off road wheels for non-paved surfaces. For jobs with abnormal wheel height we have the option of extended curbs. You also add on handrails so the ramp can be used by walk up personnel.
The Right Size
As mentioned previously, yard ramps have different load capacities. There are a variety of capacities out there, but Medlin Ramps carries ramps that can handle anywhere in between 16K to 30K.
Each ramp capacity also has another option of usable width. For each capacity, we offer a usable width of either 64 inches or 78 inches. Usable width matters for two reasons. The first is that you need to have a large enough usable width to transfer whatever it is you are shipping or receiving. The second reason is that you also need your ramp to fit where you are planning on using it. So while the larger usable width might be good because it will allow for larger transfers, it may be too large for the area you are setting it up in.
The Right Price
Finally, options matter because of price. Your company is going to invest a lot into a quality yard ramp. Therefore it is important to pay for what you need. If yard ramps came in one option, your pricing would also only be one option. With a variety of sizes available you can choose one that fits your business’s needs and budget.
