3 Common Uses of Yard Ramps

Yard ramps are perfect substitutes for permanent concrete loading ramps. They provide the same utility while costing facility managers less. Yard ramps allow cargo to be transported from truck to facility and vice versa with the use of a forklift.

Yard ramps are especially useful and commonly used for the following three scenarios.

No Ground Access

For those times that facilities do not have ground access, stationary yard ramps are the best solution.

Yard ramps provide the same utility as a loading dock and come with the benefit of being sized for your specific needs. These safe and reliable alternatives to concrete loading docks offer capacities from 16k to 40k and come in a variety of dimensions.

Temporary Location

Yard ramps are great for temporary logistical situations. For example, if you know that you will using your current facility temporary, a yard ramp can take care of your loading and unloading needs until then. There is no sense in building up a concrete loading dock for a facility you won’t be using in the near future.

Yard ramps are also useful if you need a temporary loading and unloading location at your permanent facility. For example, if you facility is under construction and your loading ramp is compromised in the process, you can set up a yard ramp in an alternative location. After all, your loading dock may be closed but your business certainly isn’t.

Back Up

You’ll never hear the words “Having a back up plan was a bad idea”. It is never a bad idea to have a Plan B.

This holds true for loading docks. Facilities with permanent loading docks can benefit from having a yard ramp on hand. There are infinite things that can go wrong during the loading and unloading process whether it is human error, structural issues, or a delays with shipments.

Having a secondary area to load and unload cargo will greatly benefit your business in these unfortunate situations. While constructing a secondary concrete loading dock is an option, it isn’t very cost effective. This is especially true if you won’t be using this secondary location unless there is an emergency. Yard ramps on the other hand, will allow your business to perform the same duties, all while costing you less.
